Why Bamboo?
- Bamboo grows in degraded lands and areas other crops cannot flourish, so bamboo does not take away from food security.
- Bamboo is native to Cambodia; although over 1200 species of bamboo exist, BGV uses 7 different species currently in various products.
- Bamboo sequesters up to 60 tons/hectare of CO2 annually and stores it in the poles. It is one of the BEST plants to help mitigate climate change.
- Bamboo offers multiple value-add industries and growth opportunities in Cambodia.
- Bamboo offers economic benefits to rural forest communities, helps them protect the forests and the environment.
- Bamboo has a life span up to 80 years, and likes to grow. Therefore harvesting methodically to maintain the rhizome means regrowth occurs quickly and creates a rotational cycle that allows us to harvest the same area every 5-7 years.
